Impact
There is currently no care pathway for Autistic people in North Staffs. Lifeworks receive referrals from the
local NHS mental health hospital/services, social services and other organisations unable/unwilling to work
with our clients. This included 120 new referrals in 2024 and 202 in 2025.
What our volunteers say about us.
“As a carer of an adult on the autistic spectrum with mental health problems I find volunteering has helped
my confidence and wellbeing. In helping others, it gives me a good feeling, as I understand what they are
going through. I find volunteering has helped my confidence and wellbeing. Lifeworks is like a big family
and being able to give support to other carers is very rewarding.”
“It is helping me to increase my self-esteem, some of which I have lost from not being in employment for
some years, is giving me some confidence, by showing me that, yes, I still do have skills, which are useful.
It is giving me work experience. It feels good to ‘be there’ for my befriended friend, to be reliable, and to
have their companionship in return.”
“Volunteering for Lifeworks has helped me to gain experience by helping people on the Autistic Spectrum
and given me a feeling of self-worth.”
